Join GHS Classmates on FACEBOOK

http://www.facebook.com/

Some of our GHS classmates have joined the social networking website, FACEBOOK, and have begun to connect and communicate with old friends and former classmates.  Some of the Groups that have formed that might be of interest to you are Graniteville High School alumni, I ate at the BLUE TOP GRILL, and Graniteville High Class of 1974.  Come join the fun!

As a fund-raiser for our LMSAA, we're considering the expense and time involved in digitizing and preserving old film of GHS football. Your feedback will be essential as to whether we undertake this as a project. Thanks for participating.

Rare Video Collection of "Graniteville Memories" Donated to USC Aiken's Gregg-Graniteville Library

Several families cooperated in an effort to resurrect old 8 mm and Super 8 mm film to prevent further deterioration and to preserve for future generations.  Representatives of the Dud Cook, Bill Conaway, Virgil Conaway, Gerald Boyd, Lonnie Barton families and Christian Heritage Church were recognized by way of invitation from USC Aiken (click here to see) at a special reception on Thursday, Oct. 30th.  Click here to view a slideshow of presentations.  Photography courtesy of Sally Jennings.

Read all about it here in The Aiken Standard

Read all about it here in The Augusta Chronicle

Visit the USC Aiken Gregg-Graniteville Library to view these videos that began in the late '40's and run through the 70's.  In addition to seeing acquaintances from toddler through adulthood, you'll see scenes from mill village life during those decades.
Please, do NOT call the library about the purchase of a DVD.

The purchase of a personal copy of any of the DVD's in the collection can be arranged by contacting Kirk Bennett.  For contact details see the "Contact Us" channel.  You can view excerpts at www.youtube.com/imokb1 .

Little Ol' South Carolina in the Limelight

By Gene Owens

As a native and current resident of South Carolina, I'm sick and tired of people talking about the embarrassment Gov. Mark Sanford has brought to the state through his affair of the heart with Maria Chapur.
Embarrassment? The governor's philandering down in Argentina -- at the extreme Southern end of the Appalachian Trail -- has thrust the state into a limelight that even the epochal death of Michael Jackson could not dim.
We South Carolinians aren't used to being at center stage. The last time the national attention was focused so intensely on our state was in 1861, when our forefathers thumbed their noses at Ol' Abe and fired on Fort Sumter.
